Spice.
The most important substance in the universe. extends life. enables space travel. good stuff. Everyone wants control of the only planet that produces it. Arrakis. aka Dune. aka Spice World.
To gain control, you'll need to occupy (or be allied with the occupier of) 3 of the cities on the planet. Expect to make deals, betrayals, attacks, legitamite purchases, maybe even ride a sandworm.
In battle, you'll need to relly on your leaders and weapons. For all other matters, your spice and your word are currencies.

Gameplay

The group you choose has a huge impact on how you will play the game.

House Atriedes

Tasked with maintaining the fief, you have the full range of knowledge of goings-on on the planet. You will know where the spice deposists will be, you will know what treachery cards everyone has. You, and only you, are allowed to keep written records of cards. And selling that information when it's most valuable is a good way to make a profit.

Bene Gesserit

The sisterhood of Reverend Mothers have powerful truthsaying abilities and political pull. Thus, you can prophesize the outcome of the game. Before play begins, you predict which player will win and what turn (out of 10). If the prophecy comes true, you win the game instead. Your spiritual advisors ship with other factions so you'll get a tiny increase in presence on the planet when other players ship down their reserve forces. You also have the power of The Voice. You may command your opponent to use a specific treachery card in battle.

Emperor

Spice. During the auction phase of every turn, if any other faction buys a treachy card, they pay you. Your power is wealth.

Fremen

Native to Atrakis; Masters of desert-power. You move through the desert with ease and can even catch a ride on shai-hulud (sandworm). If the worm shows up where you have forces, you can move them to any territory affected by the storm. If the game has lasted 10 turns and no one has sufficient control of the cities, you have successfully defended Arakis and have won the game. (You also win the normal way, by controling 3)

House Harkonnen

8 Treachery cards. EIGHT!! You start the game with 2 treachery cards instead of 1 and get a secret one for free every time you buy one. You can hold up to 8 at a time instead of 4.

Spacing Guild

You fly ships You are the ships. When other players need to move forces onto the planet's surface, they pay you to bring them there. You are the only player capable of moving forces from Dune back to reserves, and can also use your mobility to ship forces around the planet. If none of the other victory conditions are met after 10 turns, the struggle is ongiong (which is good for business) and you can declare victory.
